IAF - International Accreditation Forum

The global network IAF was founded in 1993. It is an association of accreditation bodies, associations, certifiers and organizations related to conformity assessment activities. The purpose of the IAF is to promote the worldwide acceptance of conformity attestations, for example certificates issued by IAF members.

The overall objective of the IAF is to promote world trade. IAF members - including DQS - are accredited by their national accreditation body for certification activities along specific norms and standards. In Germany, the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) is responsible for any accreditations.

In October 2019, it was decided to merge the IAF and ILAC. ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) is the second globally active accreditation society focusing on medical laboratories and testing and calibration laboratories. IAF and ILAC have been working closely together for years. The decision is expected to be implemented "in the next few years."
