Voices from Both Parties
- Wang Song Rhett, President of DQS Greater China, stated:
“The significance of EPD lies in transforming a company’s environmental commitments into standardized data that can be recognized and verified by the international market. As global supply chains increasingly emphasize environmental transparency, independently verified EPDs have become one of the most persuasive ways for companies to demonstrate environmental performance.
SINOTRUK’s decision to conduct a full life cycle assessment of its electric cargo truck based on ISO 14025 and to undergo independent verification reflects the company’s rigorous approach to environmental information disclosure. DQS will continue to provide professional support for enterprises seeking to advance EPD certification.”
- Li Qindong, CCC Certification Engineer at SINOTRUK, said:
“SINOTRUK has always integrated green and low-carbon principles into its corporate mission. We recognize that environmental responsibility is not only a regulatory requirement but also a core competitiveness for the future. This EPD certification, based on life cycle assessment, transparently discloses the environmental impacts of our product throughout its entire lifecycle—from design to end-of-life. It represents a concrete action in implementing China’s ‘dual-carbon’ strategy and promoting green development within the industry.
We appreciate the professional support provided by DQS as an internationally authoritative certification body. By leveraging internationally recognized certification systems, we aim to further enhance the transparency of environmental information disclosure and establish a green benchmark for the industry. In the future, we will continue to advance green manufacturing and contribute SINOTRUK’s strength to environmental responsibility.”
Accelerating Green Compliance: A New Trend in the Commercial Vehicle Industry
In recent years, policy and market requirements regarding product environmental information disclosure have continued to tighten, with the commercial vehicle sector facing particularly significant compliance pressures.
At the international level, the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has entered its implementation phase, placing explicit requirements on carbon emissions information for imported products. At the same time, EPD, as a third-party verification tool based on international standards, is increasingly becoming an important reference credential for Chinese manufacturers entering the European and other major markets.
Domestically, China’s “dual-carbon” goals have provided strong policy support for the development of new-energy commercial vehicles. According to industry data, sales of new-energy heavy-duty trucks in China exceeded 230,000 units in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of more than 182%.
Meanwhile, global ESG reporting standards are gradually converging, and the demand for third-party certification of environmental performance continues to grow.
Against this backdrop, an EPD is not only a document for environmental disclosure but is increasingly becoming a key component of supply chain access evaluation and brand trust building.
SINOTRUK: Continued Investment in New Energy
China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (SINOTRUK) was founded in 1956 and is one of the earliest heavy-duty truck manufacturers in China, with more than 60 years of industry experience.
In 2025, Chinese heavy-duty truck brands ranked first globally in sales for the first time. SINOTRUK’s products are exported to more than 110 countries and regions, with overseas sales accounting for approximately half of total heavy-duty truck sales.
In terms of new-energy transformation, SINOTRUK has maintained high levels of R&D investment in recent years. According to publicly disclosed ESG report data:
| Indicator | Data |
|---|
| R&D investment (2024) | RMB 2.74 billion |
| Clean technology R&D expenditure | RMB 470 million |
| Number of clean technology patents | 144 |
| New energy product revenue growth | +67% YoY (2024) |
| 2025 clean technology R&D target | 5% increase vs. 2024, planned investment of RMB 500 million |
In terms of technology pathways, SINOTRUK adopts a dual-track strategy combining battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. In the battery-electric segment, the company has developed two core drivetrain systems: e-axle drive and central drive systems. In the hydrogen fuel cell segment, more than 10 vehicle models have already entered demonstration operations.
The acquisition of this EPD verification statement marks an important milestone for SINOTRUK in quantifying product environmental performance and advancing international compliance.
