From security to demonstrable trust

ISO/IEC 27001 establishes the requirements for an Information Security Management System, or ISMS. It enables organizations to manage information security risks systematically through defined responsibilities, risk assessments, controls, monitoring, internal audits and continual improvement.

ISO/IEC 42001 establishes the requirements for an Artificial Intelligence Management System, or AIMS. It provides a framework for governing the responsible development, provision and use of AI systems, including AI risk management, impact assessments, human oversight, transparency and lifecycle control.

When these management systems are aligned, organizations can build a more coherent approach to digital governance. Shared processes for scope, risk management, supplier oversight, evidence, auditing and management review can make trust easier to manage—and easier to demonstrate.

Security protects systems. AI governance protects decisions. Together, they strengthen digital trust.
