Frankfurt/Chicago, 26 February 2026 — DQS has been accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to provide certification services for ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS).

With this accreditation, DQS is authorized to issue ISO/IEC 42001 certificates under ANAB accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021 requirements for management system certification bodies. The accreditation expands DQS’s portfolio of accredited certifications in the field of information security and emerging technologies, reinforcing its ongoing engagement with ISO/IEC 42001 since the standard’s release.

ISO/IEC 42001 is the first internationally recognized management system standard specifically developed for Artificial Intelligence. It defines requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AI Management System. Further information on ISO/IEC 42001 certification is available on our website.

The accreditation comes as regulatory frameworks for Artificial Intelligence continue to evolve worldwide. The EU AI Act, which entered into force in 2024, introduces phased compliance obligations for organizations developing or deploying AI systems. Comparable regulatory initiatives are under discussion or implementation in other regions.

ISO/IEC 42001 in Regulatory Context

ISO/IEC 42001 provides a structured framework for addressing governance, risk management, and operational controls related to AI systems across their lifecycle.

The standard includes requirements for:

  • Risk identification and assessment
  • Human oversight mechanisms
  • Data governance and quality management
  • Monitoring and continual improvement

Built on the harmonized structure of ISO management system standards, ISO/IEC 42001 can be integrated with existing management systems such as ISO/IEC 27001.
Organizations at an early stage of implementation may use the ISO 42001 readiness checklist to assess their current maturity level before entering the certification process.

DQS draws on its experience in certifying information security and data protection standards, including ISO/IEC 27001 and TISAX®, in conducting ISO/IEC 42001 audits. As a globally operating certification body with a focus on management systems, DQS combines sector expertise and methodological rigor in the assessment of AI governance frameworks.
