Who is driving the Responsible Minerals Initiative?

At the helm of this transformative movement is the Responsible Business Alliance, formerly known as the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative. Since its launch in 2009, the RMI has gained support from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Today, an independent secretariat in Washington, D.C. manages the initiative. Our members represent a diverse spectrum of industries and thought leaders, all working together to drive responsible mineral sourcing practices.

RSCI Assessments as Evidence of Sustainable Supply Chains

When it comes to proving your commitment to a sustainable supply chain, look no further than the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP). This groundbreaking program, aligned with global standards like the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, EU regulations, and the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act, utilises independent third-party assessments.

These assessments validate smelter and refiner management systems and sourcing practices against RMI standards.

The result? Concrete evidence of a supply chain that is both sustainable and ethical. It's more than just a promise—it's the assurance you need to make a positive impact on the world.

The RMI Assessment Process

It focuses on a critical "pinch point" in the global metals supply chain, a point with relatively few actors. Independent third-party assessments are conducted to validate smelter and refiner management systems and sourcing practices. The approach is risk-based, tailored to different regions and contexts, and designed to meet the highest global standards.

Join us on the journey to create responsible mineral supply chains. RMI assessments are your pathway to a transparent, sustainable, and ethical future. Together, we can drive change, support peace, and make a lasting impact on the world.

How much does the RMI assessment cost?

Establishing the cost for an RMI assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of various factors. These include the complexity and scale of the supply chain, the number of sites to be assessed, and the depth of due diligence required. Additionally, considerations such as the risk level associated with the specific region and the need for extensive on-site evaluations impact the costing. The expertise and qualifications of the assessment team, travel requirements, and the depth of documentation review also contribute to the overall cost. Customising the assessment scope to align with the organisation's size, operations, and geographic reach ensures a fair and accurate costing reflective of the efforts required to validate responsible mineral sourcing practices.
