When we state that DQS has experienced auditors, we mean it; each auditor has a substantial background with their own unique experiences. In this blog, we feature Daniella Picciotti, who has recently been featured in the Wall Street Journal Article “American Manufacturers Seek Perfection as Quality Issues Mount” and is the Chair-Elect of the ASQ (American Society for Quality) Board of Directors.

When looking back on Daniella’s background, she attributes her “passion for a career in quality” to her time taking the ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preparation course and passing the exam “on the first try.” From there, she went on to continue expanding her knowledge and experience in the quality profession which eventually led to the Certified Manager of Quality exam and her newfound appreciation of the system of Quality Management. But how did Danielle first come to Quality Management as a career?

“Honestly, I fell into Quality Assurance when I was a summer temp between my junior and senior years of college,” states Daniella. She continues:

“I was working for an aerospace company in the quality department and learned a lot that summer.  So much so the senior manager saw my passion and talents and basically offered me a job after graduation.  From that day forward, working in quality has been a passion as I’ve been able to work across departments (i.e. engineering, operations, supply chain, etc.) and with both customers and suppliers.  It’s been an amazing journey to see and learn about all the facets of the manufacturing industry.”

And from that point, we can clearly her passion in her career from her experience in undergrad, to working with the ASQ certification process, to currently working as an auditor, instructor and consultant in the industry while also preparing for her 2025 position of Chair of the ASQ Board of Directors. As Chair of the ASQ Board, Daniella volunteers her time with 20 other volunteers from “a variety of industries and educations institutions” and will “[develop] the AQS strategic plan, [review] the organizational budget and budget planning process” while also “work[ing] with the executive staff at the strategic level to ensure ASQ remains relevant as a professional association and develops quality content engaging global thought leaders.”

With experience in the field, Daniella contributes much of her knowledge to learning “from each organization [she has] had the opportunity to connect with.” As a contract auditor with DQS (if you’d like to learn more about contract auditing, read our blog “Is a Contract Auditor Career the Right Path for Your Professional Journey?”), Daniella has the opportunity to work with different organizations looking to improve their quality management systems. When asked about what makes DQS stand out as a CB, she states:

“…the resources (documented and personnel) available and the great support team that works to ensure our collective success in auditing for our clients. Also, the communications from the management and other teams (IT, scheduled, client services) are relevant and meaningful. I really feel engaged with DQS as an auditor.”

She also contributes her knowledge and success to her friends as they “saw my passion for quality and continuous improvement” and encouraged the work she continues to do today. DQS also would like to extend a thanks to her friend that referred her to contract auditing as we appreciate the experience and knowledge she provides to our work.

Looking forward to the next generation of those who are passionate about “quality and continuous improvement” and would like to follow in Daniella’s footsteps, she states it’s “important to be an active listener” and additionally “connecting outside one’s specific industry.” She continues:

“Being an engaged listener gives you some amazing insights not only for a particular organization, it also can highlight opportunities for your own learning and training… connecting outside one’s specific industry, such as a membership in ASQ, expands the field of view for how different industries and organizations approach areas like process and risk management. These insights can benefit one’s breadth and depth of knowledge as well as performance as an auditor.”

Daniella has “always worked to share knowledge and experiences with those I work with as well as looking for opportunities to learn from others” and can be seen as a role-model in this field.

Daniella, thank you for taking the time to answer questions about your work, and we have many well wishes for your current year as Chair-Elect and your next year as Chair of the AQS Board of Directors.
