The IFS PACsecure standard was in revision until recently and has now been published in its final version. Audits according to IFS PACsecure Version 2 will be possible from January 3, 2022 and will become mandatory from May 3, 2022.

Following the meeting of an expert group in March 2019 and a public consultation in April 2019, the IFS PACsecure Standard working group had withdrawn to analyze the data collected. With the lessons learned, test audits have been conducted since October 2020. The results of these test audits were incorporated into the subsequent final version of the IFS PACsecure Version 2 Standard.

The goal of the GFSI-approved standard is to be able to verify and ensure the quality and safety of all types of primary and secondary packaging. It helps companies meet growing market demands for transparency and traceability, and helps improve product integrity and increase efficiency.

Key changes

Changes in version 2 include making unannounced audits mandatory. The use of the unannounced audit option is mandatory every three years. Furthermore, there is a greater focus on on-site assessment and less on documentation. This results in a reduced number of requirements. Furthermore, the standard can be partially audited remotely. However, at least 50% of the total audit duration must still be audited on-site.

Schedule

Audits according to the second version of the IFS PACsecure standard are possible from January 3, 2022 and become mandatory from May 3, 2022. If the window for an unannounced IFS PACsecure audit begins on or after May 3, 2022, the audit will be conducted under version 2. In general, the applicability of version 1.1 ends on May 2, 2022, but there are exceptions where the application of IFS PACsecure version 1.1 is still possible. These are explained in the IFS PACsecure version 2 doctrine.

IFS PACsecure Scoring Brochure

For audits according to the IFS PACsecure Version 2 standards, the scoring system of IFS Food Version 7 is adopted. The brochure "The IFS Scoring System - Driving Continuous Improvement" explains the system in detail and is available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish here.
