Ten years after its initial publication, the now third version of the BRC Storage and Distribution Standard was issued on August 1, 2016. The application of the new version 3 is mandatory for all audits that take place after February 1, 2017. Before that, certification according to the new version is not possible.
The BRC Storage and Distribution Standard sets quality and safety standards for the storage and transportation of food and non-food products. The standard closes the gap between production and trade, thus increasing transparency and safety along the entire supply chain.
Key changes in version 3 include the introduction of optional unannounced audits, the introduction of a level of excellence as an incentive for continuous improvement, and tightened supplier release requirements. In addition, the requirements have been harmonized with the other BRC Global Standards.
