The EFfCI GMP Standard was developed by the European Federation of Cosmetic Ingredient Raw Materials Manufacturers (EFfCI) to enhance cosmetic product safety and quality. In doing so, the association responded to the increased demands of customers and end-users.

The core of EFfCI GMP certification is compliance with good manufacturing practice (GHP) in the production of raw materials for cosmetic products. The standard covers both the quality of the raw materials used and the safety and quality of the manufacturing processes.The EFfCI GMP Standard was first published in 2005. It is now available in its fourth version, which is based on ISO 9001.

For which companies is certification according to EFfCI GMP a good idea?

The target group of the standard are all companies that manufacture or supply raw materials for the production of cosmetics.

EFfCI GMP as an extension of ISO 9001:2015

Companies whose quality management has already been certified according to ISO 9001 and who manufacture or supply raw materials for the cosmetics industry can additionally and voluntarily be certified according to EFfCI GMP. The guidelines are based on the structure of ISO 9001, and a valid ISO 9001 certificate is a prerequisite for EFfCI GMP certification. When audits for ISO 9001 and EFfCI GMP are combined, the synergies result in an overall shorter audit duration.

Who is the EFfCI?

The acronym EFfCI stands for "European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients." This is a European industry association founded in 2000 to represent the interests of cosmetic ingredient manufacturers in the EU.

What is the EFfCI GMP certification process?

In the first step, you discuss your company, your personal goals and the objectives of an EFfCI GMP certification with us. Based on these discussions, you will receive an individual offer tailored to the needs of your company or organization.

The certification audit starts with an analysis of your system. This enables your DQS auditor to determine whether your management system is ready for certification. In the next step, your DQS auditor assesses the effectiveness of the management processes on site. The results are presented in a final meeting. If necessary, action plans are agreed upon.

The audit results are evaluated by the independent certification board of DQS. If all requirements of the EFfCI GMP standard are met, you will receive an internationally recognized DQS certificate with a validity period of three years.

To maintain the EFfCI GMP certificate, key components of your system are audited annually on site. This ensures the continuous improvement and ongoing effectiveness of your system.

The EFfCI GMP certificate expires after three years at the latest. A recertification is carried out in good time before expiration to ensure continued compliance with the requirements. Upon compliance, a new certificate is issued.
