Certification according to EN 16636 - more safety in pest control

The EN 16636 standard was first published in March 2015 by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) after more than three years of preliminary work. The standard was developed to drive the professionalization of the European pest management industry. Certification to EN 16636 enables pest control companies to demonstrate their expertise and quality.

The standard is made up of two central parts:

  • Requirements for pest control process operations.
  • Requirements for the professional competence of the staff or management

The overriding goals of the standardization are greater safety for consumers and protection of the environment.

For which companies is EN 16636 important?

EN 16636 is aimed at commercial pest control companies that carry out assessments, preventive measures, consulting services, and the actual measures. EN 16636 is not aimed at service providers who offer solutions for the protection of arable crops. It also does not apply to providers of routine cleaning and disinfection services.

What does CEPA Certified stand for?

The EN 16636 standard was developed at the request of CEPA, the European Confederation of Pest Professionals. To ensure that certification bodies have the necessary competence to audit pest control companies, auditors and certification bodies are trained and approved by CEPA.As one of the first certification bodies, DQS has been approved by CEPA to perform certification audits according to EN 16636. Therefore, our customers not only receive the EN 16636 certificate, but are also allowed to use the CEPA Certified seal of approval. Furthermore, certified companies are listed on the CEPA website.

CEPA Procedure

In the first step, you discuss your company, your management system and the goals of certification with us. On this basis, you will promptly receive a detailed and transparent offer from us, tailored to your individual needs.
In order to be able to assess to what extent you already meet the requirements of the standard, CEPA has developed a free self-assessment tool, which is available at www.cepa-europe.org.

The audit and its results are evaluated by the independent certification board of DQS, which decides on the issuance of the certificate. You will receive an audit report documenting the audit results. If there are any nonconformities, you have three months to resolve them and take appropriate action. If there are no more outstanding nonconformities, the CEPACertified® certificate is issued. The certificate is valid for three years.
Once we have issued the certificate, we upload it to the CEPA database. This increases your chances of being found by new customers.

To maintain the validity of the certificate, a surveillance audit is required 18 months after the initial assessment. Again, you will receive an audit report. Three years after the initial assessment, the certificate expires. If you wish to apply for renewal, a new cycle of 3 years begins.
