Proof of your energy efficiency

Your company is not an SME? Then you should have already fulfilled the requirement of the EDL-G (Energy Services Act) to prove the continuous improvement of your energy efficiency with a certificate. Now your focus is on maintaining your certificate. Whether your proof is based on an energy audit according to EN 16247-1, an energy management system according to ISO 50001 or an environmental management system according to EMAS: In any case, the validity of the certificates must be confirmed in regular audits.

What does the Energy Services Act (EDL-G) regulate?

The Energy Services Act (EDL-G) serves to implement the European Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU (EED), which obliges all member states of the European Union to take concrete measures with regard to increasing energy efficiency. According to the EDL-G, all companies in every sector - with the exception of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - are obliged to prove their energy efficiency.

The proof can be provided either with a certification of your energy management system according to ISO 50001, an EMAS validation of your environmental management system or the performance of energy audits according to EN 16247-1. This also puts you in a safe position for a possible audit by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

How can you provide proof according to EDL-G?

To enable you to meet your obligation under the EDL-G, DQS offers certification of your energy management system according to ISO 50001 or EMAS validation. Regular surveillance audits (recertification every three years) are performed to maintain ISO 50001 certification, and review intervals are also specified for the validation of your environmental statement according to EMAS. The German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) carries out random annual checks to ensure that companies have met their legal obligations.
