What is quality management according to IATF 16949?
The standard was developed by a joint working group, the International Automotive Task Force IATF, with the aim of improving quality capability and the entire certification process within the supply chain - ensuring system and process quality to the highest degree.
Since its publication in October 2016, IATF 16949 has been the successor to ISO/TS 16949 and thus the entry ticket for this internationally operating industry. IATF 16949 is structured according to the common basic structure for management system standards of ISO (High Level Structure) and supplements the globally recognized standard ISO 9001:2015 with the extended requirements of the industry.
IATF 16949 stands for quality management in the automotive industry. As a result of the revision, the standard has undergone a number of automotive-specific changes in addition to the adaptation to ISO 9001, for example in the handling of safety-relevant parts, for products with integrated software, and in traceability.
What are the benefits of IATF 16949 certification?
Companies certified to IATF 16949 improve reliability and process capability throughout their chain of supply, minimize defects and risks, and help reduce waste in the entire supply chain.
The IATF 16949 standard is therefore relevant in terms of customer-specific requirements for anyone working for the automotive industry in the areas of production or assembly, or listed as a potential external supplier.
Why is an IATF 16949 certificate useful for your company?
Through ongoing process optimization and continuous improvement of your organization, you improve your performance level, minimize losses, and deliver the highest process quality for your company.

How does IATF 16949 certification work?
In the first step of the process, we discuss your company or organization, your current quality management system, and the goals of IATF 16949 certification. On this basis, you will receive an individual quote tailored to your needs.
The assessment starts with a system analysis (audit stage 1) and an evaluation of your documentation, objectives, the results of your management review and internal audits. The actual certification audit (Stage 2 audit) must follow Stage 1 after a maximum of 90 days. In the audit, the auditors take a holistic view of people, processes, and results and also show you opportunities and potential.
After the audit, the results are evaluated within an additional 15 days. If all requirements are met, you will receive the IATF 16949 certificate. If nonconformities have been identified, a period of 90 days begins for the management of these nonconformities, the so-called "decertification process". Necessary corrective actions must be submitted within a maximum of 60 days.
Annually, key components of the system are re-audited on-site for further improvement.
The certificate is valid for a maximum of three years. Before the certificate expires, recertification is performed to ensure continued compliance with the requirements. We recommend recertification three months (90 days) before certificate expiration.
What is the cost of IATF 16949 certification?
For these reasons, the certification costs for IATF 16949 cannot be given as a lump sum. We will be happy to provide you with an individual quote, tailored to your company or organization.
