What is Business Continuity?

Any incident that leads to the disruption of business operations is the first trigger for activation of Business Continuity Plan. Following are the major factors to be considered as activation criteria for BCP.1. If the Recovery Time Objective of any critical process is less than the time required to restorenormalcy at site.2. If the time to normalcy is uncertain and achieving RTO could be a risk if the decision toactivate BCP is delayed3. If the disruption has occurred at a critical time very close to a major milestone and based onwhat the worst-case scenario would be4. The recovery priorities for the organization and business units and risk tolerance5. Various SLAs with the vendors or suppliers who are needed to recover the critical businessprocessIt is important that all Business Continuity plans are tested periodically to ensure that all those involved are familiar with their respective roles and responsibilities.
