What is a Carbon Footprint (CFP) Report?

A Carbon Footprint (CFP) Report is a technical document that quantifies and transparently discloses greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the full life cycle of a product, service, or organizational operation.

If your goal is to achieve CIC Green Product Certification (GPC) for building materials under the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) via “Carbon Auditing Route”, you can engage a Certified Carbon Auditor of us. We will provide the audit service with a report by a Carbon Auditor certified by CIC. (This service doesn't include the verification by a VVB appointed by CIC.)

Alternatively, if you choose to go for CIC GPC via "Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Route", click here for our EPD service. (With this approach, CIC doesn't require a verification by a VVB.)

In Hong Kong’s construction, building materials, manufacturing, and supply chain sectors, a Carbon Footprint (CFP) Report has become an essential compliance document for meeting low-carbon policies, green building requirements, and tender specifications.

In the CIC GPC – Carbon Auditing Route, a CFP Report is prepared by a Certified Carbon Auditor (CCA) and serves as a core deliverable for subsequent third-party verification (VVB) and HKGBC approval.

Unlike other eco-labels, a CFP Report does not set minimum emission thresholds — instead, it follows internationally recognized methodologies (e.g., ISO 14067) to present verifiable and comparable GHG emission data.

Why Hong Kong Businesses Need a CFP Report

  1. Comply with Hong Kong green building and low-carbon policy requirements (including HKGBC and CIC projects)
  2. Improve green building tender scores and strengthen competitiveness
  3. Meet ESG disclosure expectations for investors and international buyers
  4. Access green supply chain markets and enhance brand transparency

In Hong Kong, more and more construction, real estate development, and government-related projects require CFP data, especially for companies seeking CIC GPC certification.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q1: How is a CFP Report different from an EPD?
A CFP Report focuses on greenhouse gas emissions (carbon accounting) over a lifecycle, while an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and covers a broader set of environmental impacts.

  • Q2: After completing the CFP Report, what’s next for CIC GPC certification?
You’ll need to engage an HKGBC-recognized VVB for verification and then complete the application process. We can assist with the handover to the VVB.

  • Q3: Is a CFP Report applicable to all industries?
Yes. It can be applied in construction, manufacturing, logistics, and other sectors, though the methodology and boundaries will vary by industry.
